Ellis Island, an island near the Statue of Liberty in New York and became the principal office of the city.

Between 1892 and 1954 approximately 12 million passengers who arrived in the United States through the Port of New York, were inspected there, both legally and medically. It is estimated that only a small percentage was deported (2%).

The island has been called "Isle of Tears" but contrary to common belief, the immigrants received dignified treatment and help to start their new lives en America. The "Tears" refer to the sadness that involves thinking in their old house that probably will never see again.

For many immigrants, Ellis Island was "The Island of Hope". Way to freedom with tears in their eyes.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to visit Ellis Island and its Museum. From the first moment, a strange feeling came over me. I got into the skin of each and every one of the immigrants who passed through there a hundred years ago. And far from popular belief, I felt good, deep breath and my face broke into a smile, because behind those doors I was expecting a new life of freedom.

Since then, I have the body imbued with that feeling, and the idea of paying a tribute to our Ellis Island (also because I feel like mine), and all people and immigrants who made this dream possible. And what better way to represent the whole scene modeled in 3D. What to see and feel all the way from the arrival in transatlantic to exit the island.

Ellis Island, una isla cerca de la Estatua de la Libertad en Nueva York, se convirtió en la aduana principal de la ciudad.

Entre 1892 y 1954, aproximádamente 12 millones de pasajeros que llegaron a los Estados Unidos a través del Puerto de Nueva York, fueron inspeccionados allí, tanto legal como médicamente. Se estima que sólo un pequeño porcentaje fue deportado (2%).

La isla ha sido llamada "Isla de las Lágrimas", pero contrariamente a la creencia común, los inmigrantes recibieron un trato digno y ayuda para iniciar sus nuevas vidas en Estados Unidos. Las "Lágrimas" se refieren a la tristeza que implica pensar en su antigua casa, que probablemente nunca volverán a ver.

Hace unos años tuve la ocasión de visitar Ellis Island y su Museo. Desde el primer momento, una sensación extraña me recorrió el cuerpo. Me puse en la piel de todos y cada uno de los inmigrantes que pasaron por allí hace cien años. Y lejos de la creencia popular, me sentí bien, respiré profundamente y en la cara se me dibujó una sonrisa, porque detrás de esas puertas esperaba una nueva vida llena de libertad.

Desde entonces, tengo el cuerpo impregnado con esa sensación, y con la idea de rendir un tributo a nuestra Ellis Island (porque también la siento como mía), y a todas las personas e inmigrantes que hicieron posible ese sueño. Y qué mejor forma que representando toda la escena modelada en 3D. Que permita ver y sentir todo el trayecto, desde la llegada en transatlántico hasta la salida de la isla.
